  1. Whoa! A lot more of it was in Afrikaans than anticipated, but as I had decided not to read the poem's synopsis, I construed my version of the story entirely from the performance on stage. Adonis played more of a passive role seeming uninterested as a host of women lined up to 'woo' him. Venus appeared the most love-struck of them all, although sometimes seemed to be more of a 'motherly' figure which was a little puzzling. Having now read the synopsis, described as perhaps containing Shakespeare's most graphic depictions of passion, this did not quite translate through the body language on set.
Of the outdoor theatre, we were blessed with rain, wind and even hailstones but a decent spell of sunshine finally came through and made it all the more worthwhile.
